B40 Alleviation Entrepreneurship Workshop by MIRM

In difficult times, it is worth remembering the quote from Dr. Schuller's book, "Tough Times Don't Last, but Tough People Do". Throughout the pandemic, around 114 million people worldwide have lost their jobs and/or sources of income, thereby losing their means of putting food on the table.

As such, the Make It Right Movement (MIRM) sought to address this issue by re-skilling individuals within the B40 Community in Malaysia, to provide them with the necessary entrepreneurship skills for them to either start a business or to sell or provide items or services in order to obtain a sustainable income.

The training was held at Taman Angkasa, Kerling, Selangor on 4th December 2022, wherein a total of 20 participants attended the Business Training, which lasted for around 3 hours, and included activities and discussions surrounding various aspects of operating a business including Marketing of the Products, Management of Costs & Price, and Social Media Advertisements. The sessions were conducted by Brian Lariche ((CEO, MIRM) and Amanda Kong (Community Manager, MIRM), whilst being translated into Tamil by David Ranil .

Amanda commented that MIRM sought to develop an exhaustive and cohesive module for the participants which cover various aspects of operating a business in great detail. Nevertheless, Amanda opines that the biggest challenge in developing a module is the attempt to cover the various moving factors that play a part in operating.

Nevertheless, the participants were content with the workshop in the end. One participant who goes by Sumitha said (originally in Tamil), "I did not have the confidence to start a business at first, but the explanation and activities provided me with some ideas on what I could do as a business." Other participants were also motivated and confident at the end of the workshop.

Amanda and Shaqraz Ahmad from MIRM have explained that MIRM is also currently seeking to develop further modules for their Business Training and are also interested in further identifying any other communities within Malaysia to conduct a primary needs analysis followed by a Business Training or Employability Training.
