Empowering Students through Innovative Learning:
BAC2School visits SMK Pantai Sepang

On October 24, 2023, SMK Pantai Sepang witnessed an invigorating day of learning and engagement, thanks to the collaborative efforts of BAC Education and BACFlix. With dynamic activities and presentations that aimed to enrich the educational experiences of the Form 4 and Form 5 students, this visit to the school was definitely an enriching one .

The BAC2School programme at SMK Pantai Sepang offered students a blend of trainings which included soft skills, culinary arts, and demonstrations on different areas within hospitality, and this was led by Reliance College lecturers Chef Puon Swee Kent, Yogeswari Achanah and Mahalingam Mahendra, who guided approximately 60 Form 4 students through a series of interactive sessions.

Soft Skills Session

The first session focused on enhancing communication and interpersonal skills through a creative exercise. Students were divided into ten groups, each provided with materials to design an alien mask and draw a spaceship. This activity fostered creativity and teamwork, culminating in each group presenting their unique alien and spaceship designs. The engaging nature of this task helped boost students' motivation to communicate and collaborate effectively.

Culinary and Hospitality Sessions

Following the soft skills session, students participated in a culinary demonstration led by Chef & Lecturer Puon Swee Kent. The demonstration featured the preparation of a classic dish—Chicken Chop with Creamy Mashed Potatoes. This session provided students with a glimpse into the culinary world, teaching them the intricacies of crafting a delightful and wholesome meal.

Additionally, students also enjoyed a mocktail beverage-making demonstration. They learned to create a variety of refreshing and visually appealing mocktails, gaining insights into the selection of ingredients and the techniques of shaking, stirring, and garnishing. These hands-on activities not only imparted valuable skills but also made learning an enjoyable experience.

BACFlix Presentation

Simultaneously, another highlight of the day was the introduction of BACFlix.com by Aleyyah Aghna, accompanied by facilitators Siti Fatimah and Jeanie Leoncia Stanislaus. BACFlix is a free online learning platform that aims to revolutionise the way students engage with their studies, particularly for SPM and IGCSE subjects.

Platform Overview

The presentation began with an overview of BACFlix.com, emphasising its innovative and interactive features. The platform has been operational for over 12 years, offering more than 9,000 free lessons across 12 core SPM subjects, benefiting more 182,579 students to date. Key features highlighted during the presentation included:

• SPM in 100 Minutes & Learning Content: Condensed lesson videos designed to help students master SPM subjects quickly.
• SPM Seminar Recordings: Access to past seminar recordings for valuable tips and techniques.
• Past Year Questions: Practice with cloned SPM past year questions, complete with answers and tips.
• SPM & IGCSE Communities: Platforms for students to engage with peers and ask teachers subject-related questions.
• Flix – AI Chatbot: An AI chatbot that provides instant replies to subject-related queries and lesson recommendations.
• Mobile Application (Coming Soon): A forthcoming app to facilitate learning on the go.

Upcoming Events and Demonstration

Students were informed about upcoming events aimed at enhancing their SPM preparation, such as the "SPM in 100 Minutes" sessions in November 2023 and the "Tanya Cikgu Live" on TikTok in December 2023 and January 2024. A live demonstration of BACFlix.com followed, showcasing the user-friendly interface, registration process, and sample lessons, providing a hands-on experience for the students.

The visit to SMK Pantai Sepang was a resounding success, offering students valuable opportunities to learn through interactive and hands-on activities. The innovative features of BACFlix.com sparked enthusiasm among the students, promising to positively impact their academic journey. The collaboration between BAC2School, BACFlix, and SMK Pantai Sepang exemplifies the potential of combining traditional education with modern, digital tools to create a holistic learning experience.
