Promoting Creative Thinking and Innovation in Education:
A Recap of Recent Events at SMK Methodist ACS Klang
In recent months, SMK Methodist ACS Klang has been the hub of various educational activities aimed at fostering creativity, innovation, and student engagement. Two significant events stand out: the "BAC2School Training" session and the university-led event organised by the University of Malaysia of Computer Science & Engineering (UNIMY).
BAC2School Training: Engaging Form 4 Students in Creative Activities
On June 21, 2024, SMK Methodist ACS Klang hosted the BAC2School Training session, aimed at Form 4 students. This training was conducted by Mekalah.C, with the assistance of trainers Azizul Rahman and Elyena Aziz. The session was held from 8:00am to 10:30am, involving about 120 students.
The training focused on hands-on, practical activities designed to stimulate creative thinking and teamwork among students. The session started with creative thinking exercises using A4 paper and scissors, challenging students to fit themselves into the paper. This activity was followed by a session led by Assistant Trainer Azizul, where students created aeroplanes using four pieces of Mahjong paper based on given instructions. The final part of the session, led by Mekalah, involved students using Mahjong papers to create advertisements, allowing them to showcase their unique ideas and inventive skills.
The interactive nature of the activities encouraged productive brainstorming and collaboration among students, fostering a sense of community and belonging. This method of training not only enhanced the students' understanding of the lessons but also made the learning experience fun and engaging. The success of this training highlighted the importance of incorporating practical, hands-on activities in educational programs to boost students' interest and participation in their studies.
University Event: Exploring Creative and Innovative Industries
On March 14, 2024, SMK Methodist ACS Klang hosted another significant event led by Mr. Muhammad Syafiq Sholehudin from the University of Malaysia of Computer Science & Engineering. This event, held in the school's main hall from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, aimed to connect with Form 4 and Form 5 students and introduce them to the creative and innovative industries.
The event began with a welcoming speech by Madam Gowry, the school counsellor, followed by an insightful presentation by Mr. Syafiq on the creative multimedia industries. Students were then divided into teams, managed by student helpers, to participate in activities such as logo design and a creative multimedia exhibition. Prizes were awarded for the best logo designs, adding a competitive edge to the event.
The primary goals of this event were to increase student engagement, enhance their awareness and understanding of creative industries, and develop their creativity and innovative thinking skills.
Investing in Future Success
Both events at SMK Methodist ACS Klang underscored the value of engaging students in creative and innovative activities. By providing practical, hands-on learning experiences, educators can foster a supportive and stimulating educational environment. Such initiatives not only enhance students' understanding and interest in various subjects but also prepare them for future educational and career paths.
In conclusion, these events demonstrated the crucial role of creative and interactive training in education. By continuing to invest in such programs, schools can significantly contribute to the overall development and success of their students, helping them build strong relationships, enhance their skills, and feel a sense of belonging in their educational journey.
