BAC2School Empowering Students at SMK Damansara Jaya

BAC2School is keeping up the momentum with its visit to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Damansara Jaya (SMKDJ) to deliver a focused talk on "problem-solving and decision-making."

The session began with an opening speech by Mr. Kumar Nagalingam, who focused on the importance of problem-solving and decision-making in daily life. Following the speech, students were engaged in a hands-on group activity that tasked them with developing concepts for an imaginary mobile application.

Each group was required to outline the app's name, purpose, target audience, methodology, and a catchy tagline, which they presented to the trainers. The trainers, including Ms. Valarmathi A/P Selvaraj (Lara), Ms. Leong Pik Wah, Mr. Chiew Chin Kent (Hayden), and Mr. Jayaceva (Jay), facilitated the activity and offered guidance for the students throughout the session.

The Talk

For the session, the talk emphasised several important skills for the students such as:

  • Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Through hands-on activities, students learned how to approach complex situations and make thoughtful decisions.
  • Teamwork and Communication: By working in groups, students developed leadership and communication skills, essential for effective collaboration.
  • Creativity and Initiative: The activity encouraged students to think outside the box and take initiative in developing unique ideas.
  • Constructive Feedback: Feedback from the trainers helped students reflect on their performance and improve their problem-solving abilities.
  • Proposing Solutions: The session provided a platform for students to share insights on their school environment and propose solutions to common issues.
  • Hands-On Learning, the BAC2School Way

The group activity was a dynamic way to encourage students to collaborate and think critically. By brainstorming ideas for an application, students were able to engage in creative problem-solving, delegate tasks, and take on leadership roles within their teams.

Each group then presented their app concept to the trainers, allowing them to practice public speaking and refine their communication skills.

At the end of the presentations, Ms. Lara and Mr. Kumar provided constructive feedback and performance scores, offering students insights into how they could further improve their ideas and decision-making processes.

The session then concluded with positive remarks from the trainers, who praised the students for their active participation and enthusiasm. There ends another successful initiative under BAC2School's belt and there is only more to come, so stay tuned!
