BAC2School's Cybersecurity Workshop
at SMK La Salle PJ

Workshop Focus

Recently, an engaging cybersecurity workshop was part of the BAC2School programme, which included 60-70 Form 4 students in attendancee. The workshop provided a necessary understanding of cybersecurity that emphasised the importance of staying safe online and exploring potential career paths in the field.

The session, primarily delivered in Bahasa Malaysia and English, aimed to introduce the students to the basics of cybersecurity. Rather than diving deep into technical details, the trainers focused on giving the students a general understanding of key concepts with both theory and a hands-on learning experience. The workshop covered several important areas, including:

  • What is Cybersecurity?
  • Why is Cybersecurity Important?
  • Common Cyber Threats
  • How to Stay Safe Online
  • Cyberbullying and Online Etiquette
  • Careers in Cybersecurity

Interactive Activities

To make the session more interactive and engaging, the BAC2School team incorporated several fun like 'Kahoot' where students answered five questions about cybersecurity, with the correct answers rewarded with gifts.

A few other activities were - A timed word search on cybersecurity terminology, with the fastest five students receiving prizes and also a poster-making competition where students, acting as a cybersecurity company, created posters for a cybersecurity awareness campaign. Three winners were chosen based on creativity and understanding.

The Impact

The activities helped keep the students engaged and focused within an environment conducive to learning. Because of such an environment, many students were able to absorb the material effectively, as demonstrated by their active participation and ability to answer questions during the activities.

The poster-making competition, in particular, showcased the students' understanding of cybersecurity, with several creative and insightful posters produced. Two students even expressed a newfound interest in software engineering, indicating that the session had inspired them to explore careers in technology.

The combination of educational content and interactive activities helped drive home the importance of cybersecurity, while also indirectly sparking interest in future tech careers.

The programme provided a valuable opportunity for the students to learn about an increasingly important field and cement a lasting impact of these initiatives on their personal and professional growth. An impact that we can be proud to be a part of!
