MIRM Empowers Women through Business Training in Hulu Selangor

On 4th December 2021, the Make It Right Movement (MIRM) hosted a transformative business training session in the heart of Hulu Selangor at Taman Angkasa, Kerling, Selangor. With the participation of 20 eager attendees, the session aimed to equip the local community with essential business skills to foster self-reliance and economic independence.

The training was spearheaded by Brian Lariche, CEO of MIRM, who emphasised the power of self-determination through the sentiment, “If one person can do it, why can’t you?” His words resonated with the participants, inspiring them to take control of their financial futures and explore entrepreneurial opportunities. Complementing the session was a valuable contribution from Mr. David Ranil Nyanapragasam, who translated the training into Tamil, ensuring that the knowledge was accessible to everyone present.

Objectives of the Training

The primary goal of the session was to equip participants with the foundational skills needed to start and manage a business. MIRM recognises that for many marginalised communities, economic empowerment begins with the ability to generate independent income. By providing knowledge and practical tools, the training sought to foster a sense of confidence in individuals to take the initiative in shaping their economic destinies.

The session covered key areas of business management, financial literacy and entrepreneurial thinking. Participants learned the basics of managing a business, from budgeting and handling finances to identifying opportunities in their local markets. Emphasising sustainable growth, the training encouraged participants to leverage their skills, tap into local resources and build small businesses that could support their families and communities.

The Impact on the Community

For the participants, this training opened a gateway to self-reliance. Many had limited access to formal business education or resources and this session provided them with a stepping stone to becoming active contributors to their local economy. The training also laid the groundwork for the development of entrepreneurial mindsets among the participants, which MIRM believes is crucial to the long-term economic sustainability of the region.

MIRM’s efforts in Hulu Selangor were part of their broader initiative to support underprivileged communities across Malaysia by empowering individuals with the skills needed to improve their livelihoods. By focusing on practical skills and providing ongoing support, MIRM aims to cultivate resilient, self-sufficient communities capable of overcoming economic challenges.

Looking Forward

The business training in Hulu Selangor is only the beginning. MIRM’s vision for community development extends beyond this one-day event. They plan to continue offering similar training sessions across other regions, ensuring that more individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances, can access the knowledge and tools they need to succeed in business.

In a world where economic empowerment often starts with education, MIRM’s initiative in Hulu Selangor stands as a testament to the power of grassroots movements in uplifting communities. Through practical, hands-on learning, participants were given the opportunity to not only change their own lives but also contribute to the economic growth of their communities.

For Hulu Selangor’s participants, the December 4th training may have been just a single day, but it represents a long-lasting investment in their futures—an investment that will hopefully bear fruit for years to come.
