#HerStory Panel Discussion

Celebrating Exceptional Women Making A Difference

"A woman with a voice is by definition a strong woman." - Melinda French Gates.

In addition to its core aim and principle to empower members of the marginalised community, Make It Right Movement (MIRM) also focuses on various initiatives that seek to empower women as part of their mission.

In conjunction with International Women Week's organised by the BAC Education Group, MIRM had the privilege of being involved in #HerStory panel discussion on 11 March 2024, titled “Celebrating Exceptional Women Making A Difference” which spoke on various issues including Women’s Leadership, Innovation, and Advocacy.

The 3 inspiring and remarkable women key speakers were Shamini Flint (novelist and environmental activist), Tunku Mona Riza (film director), and Amanda Kong (Community Development Manager at MIRM).

The week also highlighted the Afghan community women entrepreneurial spirit through a vibrant bazaar showcasing their handmade products in addition to other inspiring talks led by influential women from various sectors, sharing their experiences and insights.

Amanda Kong said that it was fulfilling to see this initiative as a celebration and acknowledgment of women’s contributions to society whilst fostering a sense of community and resilience. By providing a platform for refugee women and featuring strong female voices, Amanda added that the event reinforced the importance of women's empowerment and solidarity in achieving social progress.
