Mastering Stress Management for Success
To equip students with essential life skills, an inspiring school visit was conducted recently, focusing on stress management and personal development. These workshops, held at SMK St. Mary, Kuala Lumpur, were tailored to meet the unique needs of Form 4 students as they navigate the pressures of academic and personal growth.
Workshop Highlights at SMK St. Mary
Date: 10 January 2025
Duration: 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM
Participants: Initially, 180 students were invited, but 50 attended due to term-end circumstances.
The session was spearheaded by trainers Nurin, Sumita Kaur and Sha, who designed engaging activities aimed at promoting awareness and practical strategies for managing stress.
Activity 1: Map Your Stress
Students were grouped into six teams to explore individual stress triggers. Equipped with mahjong paper and coloured stickers, they creatively illustrated personal stressors such as headaches or hunger. After 20 minutes of brainstorming, volunteers presented their group's findings, uncovering common challenges and solutions. This participatory exercise fostered open dialogue and mutual understanding among peers.
Activity 2: Draw What Stresses Me Out vs. What Brings Me Peace
This artistic exercise encouraged students to visually express their stressors and sources of peace. The subsequent sharing session illuminated recurring stress factors and highlighted effective coping mechanisms.
Activity 3: Balloon – My Hopes and Goals
Led by Ms. Sha, this motivational activity had students articulate their aspirations as they prepared for Form 5. Enthusiasm filled the room as students shared their goals, culminating in an inspiring story by Leeya, a student from Syria. Leeya’s vision of achieving independence and building a bright future by age 23 deeply resonated with the group.
Impact and Feedback
The workshops were a resounding success. Students actively participated, gaining valuable insights into stress management and personal resilience. Trainers ensured a safe space for sharing, which was instrumental in addressing emotional well-being.
The sessions concluded with a presentation by Ms. Sumita, introducing BAC Education Group’s offerings and resources like SPMflix, a platform to aid students in their academic journey.
These workshops exemplify the importance of fostering mental health awareness and resilience in students. By equipping young minds with tools to manage stress, educators empower them to navigate challenges with confidence and determination.
