UPLIFT's Tuition Program Brings Joy to Orang Asli Settlements and more!
Supporting Education for the Orang Asli Community
On 14th January 2023, UPLIFT, the CSR arm of the BAC Education Group, organised a Tuition Program aimed at supporting the educational needs of children from Orang Asli settlements in Kg Serigala and Kg Changkat. This initiative, driven by the desire to uplift marginalsed communities, provided over 92 children with essential school supplies, including school bags and stationery, generously sponsored by McDonald's.
The programme’s main goal was to provide relief for the burden faced by the parents of the Orang Asli children, by providing them with much-needed school equipment. The supplies, which included everything from notebooks to pens, were sorted into school bags at BAC PJ and carefully transported to the settlements by group leaders, Ms. Renuka Menon and Mr. Johan Kondrollochis.
UPLIFT wanted to make sure that this event was not just about distributing supplies, but about creating a lasting impact on the children’s educational journeys. Many of these children come from underprivileged backgrounds and lack access to even the most basic of educational materials. Initiatives like this help to bridge that gap and encourage the children to attend school with the confidence that they were well-prepared.
The children’s reactions were priceless. Their excitement and happiness were evident as they received their new school supplies, with many expressing gratitude for the care and support they felt from UPLIFT. This gesture not only provided them with the tools they needed but also instilled a sense of hope and encouragement to pursue their education with a new found drive.
A Return to Orang Asli Settlements and Suriana Education Center
Due to the overwhelming success of the January 2023 event, UPLIFT then organised another school supplies distribution on 13th May 2023, this time extending its reach to the Suriana Education Center in Desaria. The initiative aimed to continue supporting the educational journeys of underserved children, providing school supplies to a larger group of 132 students, including returning to the same Orang Asli settlements.
Growing the Programme with Expanded Support
The second event saw a wider reach, with more children benefiting from the support provided by UPLIFT. The supplies, including new stationery sets sponsored by Mr. Surenthiran Karihalvalavan, were thoughtfully packed into zip pouches and transported by group leaders Ms. Ranjani, Ms. Aimi Zafirah, and Ms. Thana.
This time, the event didn’t just focus on the Orang Asli children but also helped those attending the Suriana Education Center, which serves children from underprivileged backgrounds. With a larger group of children to support, the initiative continued to emphasise the importance of education and the role that community-led efforts can play in nurturing young minds.
Excitement and Gratitude
Once again, the children’s joy was overwhelming. As they received their new supplies, their faces lit up with excitement, and their heartfelt gratitude was shared with the UPLIFT team.
Through these two impactful events in January and May 2023, UPLIFT demonstrated its unwavering commitment to supporting underprivileged communities, particularly the Orang Asli children and those at the Suriana Education Center. By providing the essential tools these children need for their education, UPLIFT is not only helping them succeed academically but also offering them hope for a brighter future.
These initiatives highlight the importance of community collaboration and continued efforts to uplift the most vulnerable members of society. With the support of organisations like UPLIFT and the generosity of sponsors like McDonald's and Mr. Surenthiran Karihalvalavan, the path to a better education for these children is made a little smoother.
As UPLIFT continues its journey of providing for those in need, it remains a beacon of hope for many marginalised communities across Malaysia.
